Fawn In Hiding
A newborn mule deer fawn hides in Balsam Root (sun flowers) at the top of Cabbage Hill a few miles east of Pendleton, Oregon. A twin looks on from a few feet away while the mother stomps her feet in warning not to come too close. It was early June 2003.


Fawn, Looking For His Mom
This picture was taken of a newborn fawn at the top of Cabbage Hill in a field of wild flowers. A twin born only hours ago, it is still getting its bearings and doesn't know friend from foe. It was early June 2003.


Yellow-headed Blackbird
A robin-sized marsh bird the Yellow-Headed Blackbird shows a white wing patch in flight as it prepares to nest in the cattails. Its song is a low rasping sound. This picture was taken east of Pendleton in April 2004.


Four Yearling Elk
This picture was taken of four elk in the Wallowa Valley just out of the canyon going toward Wallowa. Taken October 2003.


Learning to Fly
This picture was taken of our national bird, a Bald Eagle, learning to fly at the head of Wallowa Lake. Taken August 2003.
